OC Leaders Change Debate at California Democratic Party Convention

April 27th through 29th, the California Democratic Party was forever changed thanks largely to liberal leaders from Orange County.

Members of the Patrick Henry Democratic Club of America came from various counties in California to the California Democratic Convention in San Diego to get their party to take a stance in support of real Americans.

One of the first changes on the menu was the issue of impeachment. The PHDC was pushing two different impeachment resolutions and found that a prior PHDC resolution was back on the table at the convention. The PHDC had worked with a variety of groups to organize massive impeachment demonstrations at the convention center and to let the leadership know that impeachment was what the American people wanted. They got this point across and obtained passage with a new resolution calling that called for the impeachment of Dick Cheney and George W. Bush. When this appears on the CADEM.org website, it will have the names of the two Orange County PHDC youths, Alexandar and Natasha, who have worked harder than anyone in the CDP to get the CDP to call for impeachment. Resolution committee chairman Inola Henry asked Alexandar and Natasha to stand up so she could acknowledge their hard work in front of the crowd.

The PHDC also got the California Democratic Party to call for an immediate end to all funding for military action in Iraq. In doing so, they got the party to take a stand against any and all appropriations bills funding the occupation.

What seems clear about the PHDC members is that they are not in it for themselves. Their only goal is to help others and change the world for the better. They don't seem to care about credit or glory.

The PHDC has endorsed the only genuine peace candidate in the race for the Presidency, Dennis J. Kucinich. The convention was a big win for the PHDC and for their favorite candidate. The convention-goers expressed their solid support behind Kucinich's positions on the issues. Kucinich was the best received candidate of the weekend. Members of the delegation spoke in favor of him at meetings. The Native American Caucus, where he made his first convention appearance, made him their favorite son. The delegates went crazy, chanting and jumping into wild applause when he went before the floor of the convention and then practically mobbed around him as though he were a popular celebrity as he was leaving.

Kucinich's wife Elizabeth was the only candidate's wife to take the stage at the convention. She was an instant hit. That night, when she hosted a hospitality suite with dancing and food, she was the attraction everyone came to see. While the men were stunned by her beauty, the women compared the accomplished humanitarian to Eleanor Roosevelt.

Among those who helped get the California Democratic Party to take a stand on the issues were Mary Jacobs, Ruth Hull-Richter, Natasha Hull-Richter, Alex Hull-Richter, Mark Hull-Richter, Christina Avalos, Vicki Wilson, Susan Estrella, Art Hoffman and Jerry Rubin. These individuals seemed to have endless energy, good diplomatic approaches to issues and the willingness to do what it took to make the convention a success for the American people.

Dennis Kucinich Honored by Orange County Leaders

On March 24, 2007, Orange County leaders came together to honor Congressman Dennis Kucinich, the recipient of this year's Congressman of the Year Award. Present were regional directors for the California Democratic Party, Congressional candidates, Democratic Club leaders, Leaders of the various liberal and civil rights groups, veterans, military families, musical performers and the news media.

After impressive testimonials from Democratic and labor leaders, military families, musicians and youth activists, Dennis Kucinich took the stage. Speaking with courage and determination, he presented his plans to withdraw from Iraq, prevent war with Iran, bring back jobs, bring universal health care for all to Americans and restore the integrity of the United States. He spoke passionately about the need to put impeachment back on the table. He received multiple standing ovations and seems to overwhelm the audience and reporters with his honesty and courage. Although he was limited in time, he stayed as long as the questions kept coming. His frankness in responding to questions drew strong support from the audience.

The crowd was charmed by Elizabether Kucinich. Two or three of those present compared her humanitarian style to that of Eleanor Roosevelt.

Following the event, people lined up to offer to donate and volunteer to get Kucinich elected.
A couple of attendees stated they had been planning to back Edwards until they saw Kucinich. Now Kucinich has their vote. Kucinich is on the rise and Orange County residents are eager to see him return.

Winner of First Presidential Debate Receives Award in OC

In February of 2007, Dennis Kucinich easily triumphed in the first presidential debate of the season. On March 24, 2007, Kucinich will be receiving the Congressman of the Year award in Orange County.

Those who were skeptical about his chances in 2004 are now saying Kucinich’s chances for a 2008 victory are excellent. "He is better known," "He is the only peace candidate," and "He has better presentation skills than the other candidates," are comments heard from many political observers.

According to the members of the Patrick Henry Democratic Club of America, the national organization presenting Kucinich the award, he has a perfect voting record when it comes to human rights, the environment, choice, and peace. They should know. The Patrick Henry Democrats have an extensive voting chart that rates all members of Congress and they don't pull any punches. On their chart, it's not easy to get a perfect score. Yet, the chart shows Dennis Kucinich never failed to vote in the interests of the public.

Peace activists are thrilled at Kucinich's consistent opposition to the war. One peace supporter, a seventeen year old student named Gary, pointed out that "Obama has betrayed the peace movement by voting for war appropriations, and Edwards joined Bush in leading America into war and taking away our rights."

In addition to being a popular Presidential candidate, Kucinich is the head of the Subcommittee on Government Oversight that is investigating the Bush Administration. Attending this event would be a great opportunity for students and those wanting to learn more about the Government of the United States.

The event will take place on Saturday, March 24th at the IBEW hall at 309 N. Rampart, Orange, CA 92628. They are asking those who can to contribute $25 to 2300 to Dennis Kucinich's 2008 campaign. However, this event is being put on by an organization that never turns anyone away for monetary reasons. This is a great opportunity for members of the public to come and meet Congressman Kucinich.

The North Orange County Democratic Club is co-sponsoring the event. For more information, see http://kucinichwinsoc.org/ or call 714-953-0187

Orange County Welcomes Cynthia McKinney with Big Arms

On February 27, 2007, the Patrick Henry Democratic Club of America's presentation of the Congresswoman of the Year Award to Cynthia McKinney was the event to attend in Southern California. Orange Countians rushed to fill the Anaheim Unitarian Universalist Church. They were joined by people who drove from San Diego, Riverside, San Bernardino and Los Angeles Counties, eager to see Ms. McKinney.

The warm welcome proved that Cynthia McKinney is extremely popular, even in California's most conservative County of Orange. Watch out, Loretta Sanchez. One of the topics of discussion was a call for Ms. McKinney to move to California and become part of the Congressional delegation here.

Democrats, fed up Nancy Pelosi's catering to the Bush Administration by taking impeachment off the table and her continual funding of the war effort encouraged Ms. McKinney to run in San Francisco, where a challenge to Pelosi could derail her next election. Pelosi generally runs unopposed and has become unpopular with progressive Democrats in San Francisco, a city filled with progressive Democrats.

The Green Party has asked Ms. McKinney to run as its nominee for President of the United States. Ms. McKinney has not expressed interest. However, a McKinney bid for the White House on the Green ticket would draw a significant number of votes from the major parties and could result in an upset - unless the Democrats nominate their only liberal candidate, Dennis Kucinich.

Most progressive Democrats have expressed an unwillingness to vote for Edwards, Obama, Hillary Clinton or Richardson. That leaves them Kucinich and Gavel. Gavel has already said that he doesn't care about winning. Gavel supports replacing the income tax with a sales tax that most progressives oppose. The rich would share little of the tax burden if the income tax were removed. The poor would pay considerably more for family needs under a sales tax system that makes up for a lack of an income tax. Kucinich has the support of the peace activist community and those interested in social justice. McKinney could easily upstage any Democratic nominee other than Dennis Kucinich.

Cynthia McKinney is the only member of Congress who has dared to stand up and ask the hard questions about 9/11. Families of victims, firefighters, scientists, and engineers are among those who do not believe the Administrations story about 9/11. She is the only member of Congress to file impeachment legislation against Bush. This legislation also included Cheney and Rice. People across America are wondering why Pelosi is standing with Bush against impeachment and opposing the will of the American people.

The Patrick Henry Democratic Club is the only organization regularly brings popular progressive leaders to Orange County. Its members are very active in Democratic politics both in Orange County and California.

Look Who's Coming!

On February 27, 2007 at 7 P.M. most liberals in OC will be at one special event. Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney, the only member of Congress with the courage to file impeachment legislation against Bush, Cheney and Rice, will be at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Anaheim, 511 S. Harbor Bl., Anaheim, CA., at 7 P.M. Arrive early for a good seat and close parking.

Cynthia McKinney has long been a mentor to America's liberal community. She has the courage to ask questions about 9/11 when other members of Congress are silent on the subject. She has consistently fought against the wars that Pelosi never stops funding. McKinney has worked to protect our environment and our civil rights. She was one of the lead opponents of the PATRIOT Act and of the Real ID Act (even worse than the PATRIOT Act) and has never backed away from a fight when it comes to protecting the people of America. Now, Orange County residents have an opportunity to see this heroic Congresswoman first hand.

Event details are at http://patrickhenrythinktank.org/

Thank you to the Patrick Henry Democratic Club for bringing Ms. McKinney to Orange County.

Thank you, also, to those great liberals at the Patrick Henry Democratic Club for their work in convincing the California Democratic Party to take a stand towards impeachment back in 2005. http://www.cadem.org/site/c.jrLZK2PyHmF/b.1409503/apps/nl/content2.asp?content_id={452E1AB4-78E1-4A61-91A6-F1F1380EF52F}&notoc=1

Time For Liberals To Take Back OC

A conservative trend has taken over the Democratic Party in Orange County. Democrats no longer trust their party and more and more are reregistering as independents. It is time for the major political parties to start backing the people and not the pocket books of a select few officials at the expense of candidates and constituents. Join this blog and stand up for the voters. Let's make OC really blue.
